Read this first one. Basically conservatives would like the DMC to go center because they know that that will fuck them up. Hopefully they will realize that going more left will inspire people who have given up on them. Thanks for the opposite analysis, Family Research Council!

[also, the picture. Yes, the predominantly straight married DMC is trying to defeat marriage!]

Conventional Wisdom Lacking at DNC

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is putting its money where its mouth is. According to public records, the party, which last weekend unveiled the most radical platform ever seen at a national convention, gave $25,000 to defeat California’s marriage protection amendment. As its nominee drifts even farther to the left, the DNC has been quick to follow with serious concessions in the platform, including the first-ever mention of repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

With this $25,000 gift, Democrats are making an unprecedented statement that marriage is no longer a valued institution within the party. Although DNC Chair Howard Dean is an outspoken proponent of same-sex "marriage," he should know that a surprising percentage of the grassroots is not. At last count, 30 percent of California Democrats supported Proposition 8’s definition of marriage as the union of a man and woman. Supporting counterfeit marriage is not a winning strategy. In a poll we commissioned, an overwhelming majority of Americans (58%) "would be more likely to vote for a presidential candidate who supports [marriage] amendments."

To win, the DNC should stop trying to keep up with Obama and instead try to keep up with the Joneses–normal American families who, regardless of party, still place the utmost importance on man-woman marriage. Now that we know the DNC’s priority is abolishing thousands of years of traditional marriage, I can’t help but wonder where the RNC stands. Will we see a $25,000 check in defense of marriage?

And, of all the things you could be writing about China and their human rights abuses…

Facing the Music in Beijing

A last minute change to the Opening Ceremonies is casting dark clouds on a three-hour masterpiece that most of the world considered a historic moment in the Olympic Games. During a particularly stirring part of the performance, nine-year-old Lin Miaoke was believed to have sung the Chinese anthem for the 91,000 present. However, it’s since been revealed that the picture-perfect Miaoke was only lip synching for a talented little girl named Yang Peiyi who was not deemed pretty enough to appear on the national stage. Unbeknownst to the world, Miaoke was faking Peiyi’s talented rendition, a controversy that has led to a firestorm of criticism across the globe. Citing Peiyi’s supposed "buck teeth," musical director Chen Quigang said, "The reason was for national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression."

This is just another symptom of a society that does not recognize the intrinsic value and contribution of each human life. History shows that the eugenic quest for human perfection and harsh population control efforts (such as China’s one-child policy) both contribute to high rates of (often forced) abortion. For example, in China little children with clubbed feet have traditionally been aborted. On the other hand, both girls should be congratulated simply for surviving, given the cultural preference for boys which often leads to sex-selection abortions. Time and time again the Chinese have attempted to put their best face forward. Perhaps if China didn’t have so much to hide from the world, they wouldn’t need to worry so much about the facade they’re trying to create. marriage.jpg
