Congress Learns about Trans Bias

Okay read this, and then someone please explain to me why transitioning genders is against anyone’s religion?? I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in the bible on that one. Wha…god gave you a gender, boy, and you’d better like it…? I don’t see this one.

Congress Learns About Transgender Bias

By Deb Price, Creators Syndicate. Posted June 30, 2008.

When David Schroer applied to be a specialist on terrorism at the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress, his stellar resume led to a job offer.

The highly decorated retired Army colonel had served 16 years in Special Forces, with 450 parachute jumps and combat experience in Panama and Haiti. Following 9-11, Schroer directed a classified 120-person Pentagon group involved in the war on terror.

But after telling his prospective boss over lunch that he was gender transitioning to Diane, Schroer recalls being told, "I was not a good fit for the library."

To transgender Americans, Diane Schroer’s story is all too familiar. No federal law prohibits firing or not hiring someone who bravely decides to transition away from their birth gender.

But, in a historic first, Congress heard June 26th from Schroer and other transgender Americans about how honesty often leads to a lost career, homelessness and even suicide. "Hero to zero," Schroer aptly calls her experience.

It was a model civil rights hearing, much to the credit of Chairman Rob Andrews, D-N.J., who heads the employment subcommittee of the House Education and Labor Committee.

Witnesses included gay Reps. Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin; four transgender people, including an aeronautics engineer; and a spokesman for Michigan-based Dow Chemical Co., one of more than 150 Fortune 500 companies with a non-discrimination policy on gender identity.

In addition, a lawyer specializing in discrimination litigation offered suggestions about legislative language that helps deter lawsuits. And lawyer Glen Lavy of the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund argued employers who cite religious beliefs should be allowed to discriminate against a transgender person.

The hearing was an important first step in educating Congress about why Uncle Sam should guarantee transgender workers the right to be evaluated solely on ability.

Sabrina Taraboletti, who has two college-age kids, told of losing her job working on the space shuttle after announcing she was transitioning: "When I face discrimination, they face it, too. What happens to me because I am transgender also happens to them, not only because they love me, but because I still provide for them."

Why shouldn’t there be a federal law?

Lawsuits? The retired colonel is suing now. In fact, having national guidelines with clear rules would help employers — opening them up to a talented pool of workers while providing a roadmap for avoiding lawsuits.

Religious beliefs? Chairman Andrews left lawyer Lavy flustered after pushing him to explain whether his argument for religious immunity means white supremacists should be allowed to refuse to hire African Americans and pacifists should be able to refuse to hire military reservists.

Restrooms? There’s no need to invent the wheel on this one. As transgender lawyer Shannon Minter pointed out, trans-affirming states and companies have found a simple rule works: Only after transitioning full-time to a new gender identity does the worker use the corresponding restroom.

"What we have seen, time and time again, is that any discomfort that co-workers may feel very quickly dissipates," Minter said.

Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., eloquently summed up why America should protect transgender workers. Evoking Martin Luther King Jr., she declared: "Laws cannot change people’s hearts. But they can restrain the heartless." {I love her. }

The picture: It was between her, who from a distance I thought damn son that is a hot transgendered individual and the transgender pride flag. i’ve included that as an attachment :) Also if anyone hasn’t read the wikigay part of wikipedia, it’s pretty fun. There is a huge list of bisexual media that i will post in 3…2…1… 800px_Transgender_Pride_flag.png (2.25 K) asmith.jpg

thailands trans bathrooms

Throw this in the face of all those conservative americans bitching about transgendered people molesting their children in their bathrooms.

Cross-dressing teens get own school bathroom
Thai officials launch ‘transvestite toilet’ in bid to cope with growing need

A secondary school in rural Thailand has designed a new bathroom that it calls a "transvestite toilet" for its growing community of cross-dressers.

The Kampang School in northeastern Thailand conducted a survey last term that showed more than 200 of the school’s 2,600 students considered themselves transvestites, said school director Sitisak Sumontha.

So, when classes resumed in May, the school unveiled a unisex restroom designated by a human figure split into two, half man in blue, and half female in red. Below the figure, it says, "Transvestite Toilet."

Three transgender students praised the new restroom as they plucked their eyebrows and applied face powder in front of the mirror outside the stalls.

"I’m so happy about this," Vichai Sangsakul, a teenager with a pixie hairdo pulled back with a pink barrette, told Thailand’s PBS new channel on Tuesday. "It looks bad going to female restrooms. What would other people think?"

Most rural Thais are conservative in many ways, but the trailblazing toilet initiative at the school in northeastern Sisaket province reflects another aspect of Thai society: its tolerance of the country’s very visible transsexual and transvestite community.

"These students want to be able to go to the restroom in peace without fear of being watched, laughed at or groped," said school director Sitisak Sumontha. Using female restrooms made some of the other students uncomfortable and using the men’s room often resulted in harassment, he said.

"They don’t have problems with transvestites but going to the same private area, like a toilet, makes them uneasy," he said. "The transvestite kids may behave even more effeminately than the girls, do but their anatomy is still like that of a boy."

He said the concept reflected a growing need at Thai schools and universities.

Kampang is not Thailand’s first educational institution to set up transvestite washrooms, though Sitisak said he believed it was a first for a secondary school. A 1,500-student technical college in the northern province of Chiang Mai set up a "Pink Lotus Bathroom" for its 15 transvestite students in 2003.

Deputy Education Minister Boonlue Prasertsopar recently said the ministry plans to count the number of transvestite university students.

He said he was not promoting trans-gender interests, "but if there are a lot of them in a university and it’s a problem, we may have to consider building toilets and dormitories for them."

Transsexuals and transvestites are regularly seen on TV soap operas and throughout Bangkok, working at department store cosmetics counters, popular restaurants, in office jobs and in the capital’s red-light districts. Thailand also has a trans-gender beauty pageants.

the shape of the gay brain

Posted: June 18th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Trans | 3 Comments »,8599,1815538,00.html?cnn=yes

What makes people gay? Biologists may never get a complete answer to that question, but researchers in Sweden have found one more sign that the answer lies in the structure of the brain.

Scientists at the Karolinska Institute studied brain scans of 90 gay and straight men and women, and found that the size of the two symmetrical halves of the brains of gay men more closely resembled those of straight women than they did straight men. In heterosexual women, the two halves of the brain are more or less the same size. In heterosexual men, the right hemisphere is slightly larger. Scans of the brains of gay men in the study, however, showed that their hemispheres were relatively symmetrical, like those of straight women, while the brains of homosexual women were asymmetrical like those of straight men. The number of nerves connecting the two sides of the brains of gay men were also more like the number in heterosexual women than in straight men.

Just what these brain differences mean is still not clear. Ever since 1991, when Simon LeVay first documented differences in the hypothalamus of gay and straight men, researchers have been struggling to understand what causes these differences to occur. Until now, the brain regions that scientists have come to believe play a role in sexual orientation have been related to either reproduction or sexuality. The Swedish study, however, is the first to find differences in parts of the brain not normally involved in reproduction — the denser network of nerve connections, for example, was found in the amygdala, known as the emotional center of the brain. "The big question has always been, if the brains of gay men are different, or feminized, as earlier research suggests," says Dr. Eric Vilain, professor of human genetics at University of California Los Angeles, "then is it just limited to sexual preference or are there other regions that are gender atypical in gay males? For the first time, in this study it looks like there are regions of the brain not directly involved in sexuality that seem to be feminized in gay males."

Vilain, who studies the genetic factors behind sexuality and sexual orientation, notes that it may turn out that the brains of gay men possess only some ‘feminized’ structures, while retaining some masculine ones, and this is reflected in how they act on their sexuality. "We know from studies that men, regardless of their sexual orientation, retain masculine characteristics when it comes to their sexual behavior," he says. Both gay and straight men, for example, tend to prefer younger partners, in contrast to women, who gravitate toward older partners. Most men are also more likely than women to engage in casual sex, and to be aroused by visual stimuli. "So I expect that some regions of the brain will remain masculine even in gay men," says Vilain. For something as complex as sexual orientation, it’s no surprise that everything from genes to gender to environment may play a role in ultimately determining your perfect partner.

Happy With McDonalds ProGay policies- tell them!

Posted: May 8th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Trans | No Comments »

Here is a message I got from the FRC today. I know we can’t really counteract their heavily financed "grassroots" campaigns, but we can let McDonalds know that there are some people out here who are happy with their reaching out to the gay community.

Here’s the msg:

McDonald’s has become a "Corporate Partner" of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). Please join in asking McDonald’s to end its support of the NGLCC.

McDonald’s is funding homosexual activism–and I’m NOT lovin’ it!
May 5, 2008 | Refer a Friend

Apparently, serving McFlurries and Big Macs to the public is no longer enough to satisfy the hunger of McDonald’s to make a cultural impact on the United States. Sadly, McDonald’s is now financing attacks on marriage and the family as a new Corporate Partner of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

The NGLCC promotes businesses owned by homosexuals, but it also pushes the homosexual political agenda in statehouses, courthouses, and the halls of Congress. Thought crime ("hate crime") laws, homosexual and transgender "civil rights" preferences, and domestic partner benefits are top-priority issues of the NGLCC.

Richard Ellis, Vice President of Communications for McDonald’s, was recently named to the Board of Directors of the NGLCC. In a press release, the NGLCC praised Ellis for his "vast Board experience with LGBT and advocacy related organizations." It’s alarming that the overseer of McDonald’s advertising campaigns directly geared toward families will now be a leader in the NGLCC’s campaign to weaken traditional values.

The NGLCC’s efforts on behalf of homosexuality threaten the family, the definition of marriage and the very religious freedom we hold so dear.

Here are two effective action steps you can take to get McDonald’s back on course:

1) Sign the attached petition to McDonald’s Chairman Andrew J. McKenna. FRC will compile the names and signatures and deliver them to McDonald’s at their corporate headquarters.

2) Print out the attached flyer (Click here to download a PDF of the flyer) and bring it to your local McDonald’s restaurant. Ask to see the manager, give him or her the flyer, and respectfully request that he or she notify the corporate offices that customers are upset about this policy. We ask that you NOT attempt to post the flyer in the restaurant, hand it out to customers, or put it on windshields in the parking lot–just bring it to the manager. Be polite, of course (the manager probably is not even aware of this new corporate policy). DO print additional copies of the flyer and give them to your friends, however, and ask them to take them to the local restaurant manager as well.

McDonald’s has enjoyed enormous success providing affordable food to billions of people; it should resist the temptation to play politics with its business.

Thank you for taking action, and may God bless you. mcdonalds_anemi.jpg

PLEASE PLEASE fight the crazy bigots! takes 2 secs

this takes two seconds, you just press two buttons on your phone. DO IT!

The American Family Association (AFA) is ‘taking action’ AGAINST the committed gay couple, Luke and Noah, on CBS soap As The World Turns.

They don’t want anymore of what they call ‘repulsive’ kissing between the two.

Yeah, well, we want MORE!

We must stand together to show our support for Luke and Noah and SHUT DOWN the AFA’s campaign.

According to their site, the AFA "represents and stands for traditional family values" and believes "in holding accountable the companies which sponsor programs attacking traditional family values."

Here’s an excerpt of the bigoted ‘action alert’ the AFA sent to members after Luke and Noah’s latest kiss aired on the soap.

Procter & Gamble has resumed using explicit, open-mouth homosexual kissing in their soap opera, "As the World Turns." P&G decided to include this type of content as a commitment to "diversity." P&G stopped showing such scenes some months ago, but has now decided to again help promote the homosexual agenda which includes homosexual marriage.

Gay activists are hopeful that the P&G effort will desensitize viewers to the homosexual lifestyle and help make the unhealthy and immoral lifestyle more acceptable to society, especially to children and youth.

View a scene from the April 23, 2008 episode by P&G. WARNING – content is repulsive!

"As the World Turns" is owned and controlled completely by P&G. No network made this decision. P&G alone made the decision to support the homosexual agenda.

P&G needs to hear from you today. We have provided a sample letter for you to send to Chairman Lafley, but strongly encourage you to add a personal message.

The AFA are a bunch of bigoted hate mongers!

Isn’t infidelity totally against family values? Why no campaigns against infidelity in the numerous shows that glorify such ‘sin’?

Luke and Noah are a committed couple–people in love kiss. Gay people are normal. We’re you’re brothers, sisters, mothers, father.

The AFA needs to stop drinking Intolerade!

P&G, who produce the show, have set up a line in response to the AFA’s push.

Call P&G to register your support of Luke and Noah: 1-800-331-3774.

Do it! Do it! Do it!

P.S. We can’t believe P&G actually set up a freakin’ phone number in response to this. But, that’s why it’s even more important for you to call and show your support! beautiful_gay_kiss.jpg
